    Analysis on Results of Monitoring Water Quality in Rural Drinking Water Safety Project in Pingxiang

    • Objectives  To understand the hygienic status of centralized water supply in the rural drinking water safety project in Pingxiang city,to improve the management level of rural drinking water,and to provide technical basis for developing intervention measures.
      Methods  The quality of finished water and tap water samples collected in dry season and wet season in 2012 from all monitoring points were inspected according to the standard methods.
      Results  The source of centralized water supply was based on underground water,underground water covered more population than ground water covered. The indexes with higher unqualified rate were total coliforms (26.79%),thermotolerant coliform bacteria (20.15%) and the total count of colonies (24.49%).
      Conclusions  There were hidden safety problems in centralized drinking water supply in rural areas of Pingxiang city. Ineffective disinfection is the main cause of microbial contamination.
